The warm, soft light given from this translucent light shade is created by the thin porcelain shell and delicate ribbed structure.
Developed during the Chinese Song Dynasty, eggshell porcelain or bodiless chinaware is a unique technique, which allows pattern to be seen through remarkably thin porcelain when under light.
The ribbed pattern is adapted from the structure of disposable plastic wares used in Taiwanese roadside restaurants. Applied to this lampshade of fine porcelain the ancient craft is brought into a contemporary context.
The industrial motif re-interprets the intricate patterns of rare porcelain antiques, giving an elegant touch to the soft glowing object.
