Salone del Mobile Milan: Nendo for HAN Gallery
HAN Gallery presents the complete range of Bamboo Steel Furniture designed by Nendo and marks its venture into mass production and international market. The public display of the Bamboo Steel Furniture will take place in LAP (Via Cletto Arrighi 19, Lambrate, Milan) from 9th till 14th of April 2013.
Inspired by Taiwan’s traditional crafts, Nendo applied bamboo-weaving technique to tubular steel pipes. The union of the ancient handcraft with the mass production material resulted in the Bamboo Steel Furniture, which consists of a lounge chair, an armchair, a barstool and two tables.
A distinct feature of bamboo bending technique was used while processing steel: thinly sliced parts were joined by wrapping around each other, which gave the hard metal a sense of pliancy.
Bamboo Steel Furniture is a contemporary re-interpretation of traditional weaving methods. The pipes of the Bamboo Steel table are sliced vertically and hand-woven together to create a stunning structure that connects the legs and the table surface. The seating surface of the Bamboo Steel chair is lasercut to form the hexagon patterns which enhance seating comfort.
